Do you have recommendations for
teaching geriatrics yoga?

Natalie: Hi Susan..just found your site and am loving it. I am a dietitian and new yoga teacher and am thinking of introducing yoga to my long term care geriatric population at the facility I work at. Most are in wheelchairs and would love some recommendations from you including which CD you recommend. I too am >50 and understand how its different with each age group as I practice with different generations :)

Susan: Welcome to the world of Yoga for the Young at Heart! I’m so glad you appreciate our website and what we have to offer!

I know that working with the senior population is a very special experience for the teacher as well as the student. I think this would be a good place to start. I’m so glad that you’re feeling drawn to sharing yoga with the people that you work with!

My Sitting Fit Anytime DVD is perfect for those who are physically challenged, in wheelchairs and/or are too weak to get up and down off of the floor. Its divided into segments, each focusing on different areas of the body so you can mix and separate the class as is appropriate for your students.

There is also a section on seated yoga, Sitting Fit, in my book.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any specific questions and enjoy teaching!
