Can you give me advice about yoga for kyphosis?

Jennifer in Florida: Which of your DVDs would be good for my kyphosis and can you give me advice about a DVD just for kyphosis…or any other advice.  It would be very appreciated.  I already have your Basic Series 1.  Thank you again.

Susan: I’m sorry that I don’t have a DVD that specifically addresses kyphosis, but a consistent yoga practice with attention on proper alignment in the poses will certainly help a lot. Your question regarding kyphosis requires a bit of a complex answer, but basically your slumped shoulders and forward curved spine can be mitigated by doing poses that strengthen your core, lift your heart up and forward, and draw yourself tall and strong.

In all poses, be aware of your alignment and focus on realigning your shoulders, neck and spine. Also be aware of strengthening and stretching your abdominal muscles, lifting your heart and moving by leading with your heart.

You may also want to consult with a physical therapist or yoga therapist for more specific direction that especially addresses your situation.

I hope this helps!
Susan
