Bus Driver with Stiff Back Muscles

James: I have been a Bus Driver for 8.5 years and How can/ would Yoga help me and my stiff back muscles? My chiropractor gave me some stretching exercises that help some but??  The magazine; Yoga Journal, shows me some interesting things!

Susan: As a bus driver, I’m sure you do have tight muscles, tight hamstrings and a stiff neck and back. Yoga can certainly help mitigate these issues. Stretching, strengthening and moving in various ways that you don’t move while driving will allow your body to release the tension and relax the stiffness.

I’d suggest you try out two different DVDs that we have available…The first, Yoga for the Young at Heart, is a yoga class that you can do in the privacy of your home…it would be a good overall stretching program that will address all areas of your body. All that sitting while driving will need to be countered with stretching your hamstrings, strengthening your back and stretching your upper body. I’m sure it would be a welcome relief and will help you to feel great!

Second, our Sitting Fit DVD will give you lots of poses and stretches that you can do while sitting. Just knowing how you can stretch while seated will give you some tools that you can use, even at work…but, please…not while driving!
