Marianne: I used to take a Hatha yoga class but I now have three compression fractures in my spine and cannot do some of the bending over that is required. Is “Yoga for the Young at Heart” geared to people with osteoporosis?
Susan: I’m sorry to hear that you have some spinal issues. As you probably know, yoga helps to strengthen bones, as it is a weight bearing exercise, however, if you have stress fractures, osteoporosis or other bone weaknesses, better ask your doctor about what is appropriate for you.
Yoga for the Young at Heart is a gentle, beginning yoga program that can be done at your own level of ability. It is adaptable for most able-bodied people, however there are some conditions that may preclude this or any other type of stress on the body.
