Julann: I am a personal trainer, I have been into fitness for a long time. I am 47 and would like to get into yoga for my own personal workout, but I have a torn meniscus in my left knee. Can you give me any advise or recommend a DVD. I cannot bend my knee past 90 degrees.
Susan: Regarding your question below…I would suggest that you see your doctor about the torn ligaments in your knee. It may require surgery to correct it. Until then, you can do whatever doesn’t cause you pain.
You can do many of the yoga poses in my programs and don’t be afraid to adapt the poses to your comfort level.
A tip on knee comfort: You can place a folded sock behind your knee when you want to bend it without pain. Experiment with the thickness of the sock or towel and push it into the back of your knee. It will help to create a bit more space in the joint. It usually works and can make you more comfortable.
My suggestion: Do what you can, be gentle with yourself and don’t cause yourself any pain….and see a good orthopedic specialist for help.
